Paradoxically, the only years after the great divorce, the final dividend for the Jeep brand of DaimlerChrysler marriage. An all-new Jeep Grand Cherokee began in 2011 and now shares its architecture with Mercedes-Benz M-Class SUV. Better late than never, we think.
A new 3.6-liter replaces the previous 3.7-liter V-6 base. It produces 280 horsepower and 260 lb.-ft. of torque (a significant increase in the tuft old 210 and 235) and returns fuel economy 11 percent better, thanks in part to variable valve timing. The optional 360-hp, 5.7-liter HEMI V-8 returns to the playground, and both engines are mated to a five-speed automatic transmission and two rear-wheel drive.

The optional Quadra-Lift air suspension (inherited from Mercedes) may increase the height of the Grand Cherokee, more attention, departure and break over angles even more off-road credibility. No longer bound by Commander, Jeep pillar of the carrier family has room to grow – and so the new Grand Cherokee is 1.8 inches longer, 3 inches wider and, above all, ride a pace that is 5.3 inches longer long.
